My computer problems are mostly solved, and I’m more-or-less up and running again. We will start back posting technical content this week for subscribers.

When we left off, we were discussing a variety of process modifications for making biochar with enhanced adsorption properties compared with biochar generated from conventional anaerobic pyrolysis processes. We covered

  • semi-aerobic gasification pyrolsyis

  • wet-quenching gasifier biochar

  • feedstock pretreatment with base and alkali/alkali earth metals, or ash leachate

  • and thermally regenerated biochar

This week we will finish discussing process modifications. Next week we’ll move into the next major section of Chapter 4 and turn our attention to water chemistry: how background dissolved organic matter and competitive sorbates influence biochar water treatment efficacy.

Thanks to those of you who have written for your kind correspondence, and for bearing with me these past few weeks while I’ve fought the computer-gremlins.
