Andean biologic and geologic observatory
low-tech water collection and filtration at high elevation
Some really nice work by our collaborators in Ecuador setting up a water collection and treatment system on the shoulder of an active volcano high in the Andes!
Working on a ferrocement cistern.
This small Andean community hosts a biological and geological observatory near the summit of volcan Cerro Guagua Pichincha, just west of Quito, at around 4,500 m (~14,760 ft) elevation.
They have recently installed a ferro-cement cistern and biological slow sand/biochar adsorption treatment system to provide water to the community as well as visitors to the research station.
Here are a few photos of the work in progress:
What a cool project!
neat!
